Norrey en Bessin was liberated without a fight on the 7th of June by The Royal Regina Rifles Regiment (lt-Colonel Foster M.Matheson)7th Infantry Brigade of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division but was then subject to a number of counter attacks by the 12. SS-Panzerdivision " Hitlerjugend " which caused much damage. The frontline only moved away during Operation Charnwood on the 8th of July.

The 13th century Church was later rebuilt.
