Boeing B-17G-70-BO Fortress 43-37726 s/n8704 of the 452nd Bombardment Group (H), 45th Combat Bombardment Wing, 3rd Bombardment Division, 8th Airforce releases what appears to be a 2,000lb AN-M66 GP bomb over a French target.

This is an unusual photograph since this size bomb was rarely carried due to its size. It was so large it could not fit in the internal bomb bay of the B17 and had to be carried on the rarely used external racks inboard of the engines. A further bomb can be seen remaining on the rack furtherst from the camera.
