This is a view of the Charles X basin, with the masts from a number of wrecks exposed over the surface of the water. They were scuttled by the Germans in order to deny them to the Allies and also prevent the use of the basin by Allied shipping.
The wrecked hangers of Chantereyne naval air station can be seen on the other side of the basin.
