The railway in the foreground was bombarded on the afternoon of the 6th of June as part of Allied efforts to seal off the battle area from the rest of France. 41 civilians died.

The area was liberated on the 13th of August by 501 RCC, 2nd Division Blindée commanded by Colonel Warabiot.
