Another view of the this Barber-Greene trencher being used to dig a trench, probably to run an underground water pipe for the two General Hospitals established near Carentan.

5th General Hospital (Lt. Col. Robert M. Zollinger) came ashore on the 6th of July, after embarking at Southampton.

The 50th General Hospital (Colonel Hubbard T. Buckner) came ashore on the 28th of July after embarking in Scotland.

The Hospitals opened their doors on the 14th of August and two weeks later reached a capacity of 1,000 beds. They were staffed by 68 doctors, 105 nurses and 500 men.

Both were setup at Saint Hilaire Petitville east of Carentan.
