French civilians pay their respects to fallen Allied (mainly US) soldiers who fell in the fighting to liberate the area. This was a provisional cemetery at Cambe, these bodies were later moved to one of the permanent cemetary.

In the background can be seen the US flag hanging from a flagpole, with a GMC truck carrying black troops. Black soldiers were rarely used on frontline duties in WWII due to US segregation policies, instead used to dig graves and other non combat duties.
