Henry Morgenthau Jr the secretary to the treasury in President Roosevelt's administration and Lt.Gen. John Clifford Hodges vist a huge fixed V1 launching site located at Brécourt 5km west of Cherbourg.

This site was codnamed by the Germans "Wasserwerk N°2" or Waterworks Number 2. The Germans initially built huge sites protected by thousands of tons of concrete and massive AA defences. They quickly came to the attention of the Allies who made them priority targets. The Germans quickly realised that it was better to have small semi-mobile launch sites and not be attacked in the first place, and largely abandoned the large fixed sites. Nonetheless the small sites were well defended and once found were hard to destroy.

Lt.Gen. J.C. Hodges was the head of Services of Supply (SOS) in SHEAF and went by the colourful nickname "Jesus Christ Himself"
