This dock was under construction when France fell in 1940, construction was suspended until the area was liberated in 1940. The US Army needed to get the dock working as soon as possible and finished construction using a wharfe constructed out of timber.
In the background can be seen the fort des Flamands, on the dock there are GMC trucks and American engineers.
