Unloading of artillery shells from a ship

Artillery shells are unloaded from a ship onto a waiting barge which will transfer them to shore. The fuses will not be in the shells, making them somewhat safer. However being struck by a torpedo in the middle of the Atlantic for example still carried a large risk of the explosive in the shells causing an enormous secondary explosion.
