The area around the position shows the effects of much counter battery fire, but the gun position itself shows little sign of damage.

Battery Hamburg housed 4 24 cm/40 (9.4") SK L/40 guns of pre WWI vintage taken from obsolete warships early in WWI and converted into costal artillery.

Battery Hamburg was manned by 260 men including 250 sailors under the command of l'Oberleutnant (MA) Rudi Ernst Max Gelbhaar. It scored a hit on the US Battleship USS Texas as she bombarded the battery on the 25th of June. Luckily for the Texas the shell was a dud and failed to explode.

The battery was captured by the US 4th Infantry Division on the 28th of June.
