Wrecked American landing craft, Omaha Beach

More evidence of the force of the "Great Storm" that blew up the Channel on the 19th to 21st of June, seriously delaying the buildup of Allied forces in Normandy.

As well as the destruction of the Omaha Mulberry artificial harbour part of which can be seen washed up on the beach here behind the two French civilians a large number of smaller landing craft were thrown up onto the shore.

Beyond is the large amount of larger shipping that was unable to land its cargo during the storm, no doubt to the misery of the troops aboard.

On the right is the ramp of a LCT, with another LCT, LCT 25 washed up on th eleft of the picture. Onboard the LCT are M15 and M16 halftracks of Battery B 197th AAA Battalion. Behind is the LCI (L) 497 which stuck a mine on the 6th of June and was beached then, only to be caught up in the storm over a week later.
