AA emplacement, Advanced Landing Group

Sitting on the mount of his .50 Cal Browning M2A1 water cooled AA machine gun Pvt Leroy C. White of Mannheim, Pa keeps a close lookout for enemy aircraft looking to make a quick attack on the under construction Advanced Landing Ground behind him.

While the the Luftwaffe was certainly on the back foot by June 1944 it nevertheless mounted a strong response to the Normandy invasion mounting thousands of sorties. It did however suffer crippling losses, and could not change the course of events on the ground.

ALG A-4 Deux-Jumeaux/ La Cambe/ Longueville was constructed in 15 days between the 14th and 30th June 826th EAB.
