Abandoned German vehicles in bomb craters.

abandonedgermanvehiclesinbombcraters.jpg

This picture was taken in an orchard owned by the Gallois company near a hamlet called Fauvetière, south of Vimoutiers two German vehicles have been pushed into bomb craters by the retreating Germans.

In the nearest crater is a Steyr 1500 A/01 infantry carrier, and in the other crater a Tiger II Panzerkampfwagen VI Ausf. B.

The Tiger would have belonged to Panzer-Abteilung 503, and was probably abandoned due to mechanical failure or lack of fuel, and in one of the pictures in this series can be seen to have been destroyed by its crew after being towed into the bomb crater. It was sent on fire and the internal explosion of its ammunition has blown the turret off.

This area was bombed on August the 14th by American aircraft.
