On the 22nd of August 1944 at 14:00 Hauptmann Rauch (with dust goggles on his cap) of the 2. Panzer division surrenders with his men to Major D.V. Currie (on the left with a revolver listening to the report of Sgt Pete Woolf MM of C Squadron), commander of C Squadron of the 29th Reconnaissance Regiment (The South Alberta Regiment). This unit formed a battlegroup with B Company The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada (Princess Louise's Own).
The Hauptman faces Colour Sergeant-Major George Mitchell, and we can only imagine what the good CSM had to say.
To the left of the picture is Sgt Jack Stollery of the 1st CAF&PU, who is filming the event. Film cameramen often worked in liaison with the photographers of this unit, who on this occasion is Lt D.I. Grant of the 1st Canadian Army Film & Photographic Unit. Picture taken at St. Lambert-Sur-Dives. Major Currie recived the Victoria Cross for his part in this action.
