Abandoned Panther Tank, Falaise Gap.

This Panzer V "Panther" tank appears to have been burned out judging by the black marks around all the hatches. Possibly it was scuttled by its crew when it ran out of fuel.

One of a series of low level pictures taken of destroyed German equipment that littered the Falaise Pocket area, much of it destroyed by Allied tactical airpower that roamed at will over the roads packed with the transport of the 7th Army as it tried to escape the pocket through the small corridor held open up to the 19th of August. Allied artillery and a simple shortage of fuel completed the loss of most of the armies transport and heavy weapons.
