A specially trained unit for control of naval gunfire in support of troops ashore. It consists of a spotting team to adjust fire and a naval gunfire liaison team to perform liaison functions for the supported battalion commander.

This NSFCP operates a SCR-284 radio powered by a GN-45 hand cranked generator. The Utah Beach NSFCP formed a part of the 286th JASCO (Joint Assault Signal Company) of the1st ESB.

The soldier to the right with the SCR-536 walkie-talky is one of the famous Comanche codetalkers who used their own language as a code the Germans had little chance of breaking. 13 of them were landed with the 4th Signal Co, 4th US ID. Several were later wounded in the Ardennes, but none were killed or captured. The activities of their counterparts in the Pacific form the basis of the film "Windtalkers"
