The damage in the background was probably caused on July the 8th at 08:00 when 3 waves of US B-26 bombers bombed the crossroads of rue de Bayeux and rue de Bretagne. The attack took place over just two minutes and left 50 dead and wounded.

Further down the street can be seen a Caterpillar D7 armoured bulldozer.

In the background can be seen the intact spires of Saint Etienne Church. This was in the îlot sanitaire area, which escaped serious damage from Allied air attack but did suffer from German artillery.
