Following the assault by 3 companies of the 2nd Ranger Battalion German POWS are lead to the beaches past the command post of Colonel James E. Rudder.

The Rangers held the battery against German counter attacks for 2 days before being relieved on the 8th of June. By this time, only around 90 men of the 225 man assault force was still on his feet.
