Juno Beach, in the area of Courseulles sur Mer.

junobeachintheareaofcourseullessurmer.jpg

Another busy beach scene on another part of Juno Beach. This picture and the one before it, taken on two parts of one of the five D-Day beaches underline the extent of the huge enterprise that was Operation Overlord.

On the left are the rears of a pair of Stuart V light tanks fitted with Deep Wading Trunks designed to allow the tank to travel in water that would normally swamp the engine.

Beyond that is a Humber Heavy Utility 4x4 command vehicle.

To the right of the Humber are many Sherman III tanks led by another Stuart V. To the left of the column of Shermans, hidden by a bridge section is a Churchill Bridge layer of the 5th Assault Regiment Royal Engineers. 79th Armoured Division.

To the left climbing up the dunes is a Universal Carrier towing a 6pdr anti-tank gun.

On the right of the column of Shermans is a bundle of Fascines intended to be dropped in a ditch or trench to allow a tracked vehicle to pass over.
