One of the more photographed landmarks of the Normandy landings this building stands of the seafront of Bernières sur Mer.
This sector was assaulted by the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada of 3rd Cdn ID on 6 june 1944, when the area became part of Juno Beach. They lost 100 men killed or wounded on that day.
