Two US female signallers / telephone operators pose outside the orangery of château de Chiffrevast

They are members of Company C, 3110th Signal Service Battalion which was based here from July the 26th1944. The previous occupants of the château was Generalmajor Karl-Wilhelm von Schlieben, Kommandeur of 709 infanterie division and his HQ before their rapid eviction shortly after the D-Day landings. The property at the time was owned by a M. Raoul Le Doux, whose opinion of all these uninvited guests can only be imagined.
