US Trooos and vehicles outside Sainte-Marie-du-Mont church

Another view of the same scene, taken from slightly further back and with more of the church in view.

The area was the location of a fierce fight between the 101st Airborne and German troops on the 6th of June witnessed by the church clock which stopped at 01:10 on the morning of the 6th of June. The steeple shows signs of a shellhole to the extreme right of the tower below the dome, it is proable that this strike during the airborne assault stopped the clock.

Same location today

Note that the clock no longer appears to be there.
