Alexandre III Quay, Cherbourg

Some small fishing boats are moored alongside the other wall. Fort du Roule can be seen 117 meters above the quay, home to StP 272 during the occupation. On the other side of the Quay can be seen the HQ of the National Police in Cherbourg, with the French Tricolour.

Off the quay where the present day police station and gendarmerie is located there was a camp used to house Russian female prisoners / forced labourers who were used for loading timber onto shipping. It was surrounded by barbed wire and guarded by armed German soldiers.
