12e régiment de chasseurs d'Afrique (RCA) at concentration point

Sherman tanks of 12e régiment de chasseurs d'Afrique (RCA) in concentration after coming ashore beginning the 1st of August. The unit was in action on the 7th so this picture can be placed between those dates.

Concentrating armour in this way was a testament to Allied control of the air, and would have been unthinkable for the Germans who were unable to move large formations during the day without inviting huge air attack. A similar German unit would be dispersed and camoflaged.

Tank 29 "Maurienne" commanded by Sergeant Martin was destroyed in action on 3rd Jan 1945. To its rear is Tank 28 ""Tarentaise" commanded by Sergeant Bizard was lost on the 12th August 1944.
