Sherman unloads from LST-517 Utah Beach 2nd August 1944

Sherman M4A2 "Ile de France" commanded by Lt Baillou hits the beach. Lt Baillou commanded 2nd Platoon, 3rd Squadron 12è Régiment de Chasseurs d'Afrique (RCA).

This tank would be lost on 12th August 1944 and Baillou wounded. He later rose to the rank of Lt Colonel. Note the "Somua" name plate under the drivers hatch, no doubt rescued from this crews previous mount.
