These members of the 101st Airborne drive through the crossroads of Rue Holgate and RN13, Carentan in a Kübelwagen liberated from their opposite numbers in the German armed forces. The registration of the Kübelwagen is WL 333 369. WL=Wehrmacht-Luftwaffe, the major Luftwaffe unit in the area being Fallschirm-Jäger Regiment 6 commanded by von der Heydte. The German paratroop unit defended Carentan before being evicted by the 101st.
The other troops resting outside café-restaurant Désiré Ingouf carry the helmet markings of the 327th GIR (Glider Infantry Regiment)
