This fort formed part of the pre war defences of Cherbourg and was destroyed by French sailors in 1940 as the Germans approached.
In the background can be seen port des Flamands, and its associated fort of the same name. To the right can be seen the Mielles dock, then the site of the Amiot factory and now the location of Constructions Mécaniques de Normandie (CMN).
